Old Delhi - as promised

Once my borther and sister landed at New Delhi, we decided to go through the small and crowded streets of Old Delhi's bazar. They had only seen India by night, and all the first night gave them was heat and humidity. Old Delhi promised to give them the crouds and the scents of India.

Old Delhi gives you an insight of the unorganised yet soo efficient way of working here. Take a look at electricity...

But the best of old Delhi are the many shops and their millions of colors, the food and the nice and undelicate scents.

An a good introduction to India had to go by a few rikshaws!

First impressions of Delhi

After another night in the train, I was finaly arriving in Delhi. I had a couple of days to discover the city, arrange for our trip to Leh and wait for my brother and sister to land at New Delhi airport.

My second imperssion of Delhi was calm. the first one was that of any major train station and tourist spot in India... noise, people and many people at you to bring you into thier hotel. But once out of the central train station and out of the very popular Pahraj, I felt New Delhi was so akwardly calm. Far less car jams and crazy car drivers, less people on teh sidewalks etc etc than in Bagalore. thanls to hectic and saturated Bangalore, I was at ease in New Delhi.

I went around visiting the streeets, happy to be set in a fix place for a few days after all this travelling, happy to be seeing my brother and sister soon and soo very happy to not be alone any more on my trip in less than 48hours.

At night time, like a few young Indians of New Delhi, I went to Connaught Place and enjoyed the lower night time temperatures.

Even the cows in Delhi are calm.

Orchaa - as promised

My second and last stop on my train trip from Bangalore to New Delhi was Orchaa. After getting off the train at Jahansi and paying the collective rickshaw driver the same price as the others (not the tourist price we had negocitated before leaving the train station), I was at Orchaa.

Orchaa is a calm and quite place with beautiful monuments and simple nice people living and not too overwelmed with tourist and the will to rip them off.

The life of Orchaa is organised around its river, and gives the whole scenary its peace and harmony.

I visited Orchaa's monuments almost alone, if it hadn't been for a "guide" that followed me for a good hour. Very nice man, but that day I had decided to visit alone and not to pay for this sudden friendship. After a nice exchange, saddly our orads had to part because of insufficient fundings to continue our friendship... Neverthelesse Orchaa's palaces are magnificent.

And the details of the architecture are wonderful.

Even our friend the cow was here.

Spending a couple of days in Orchaa is a must!

Train - as promised

The 48 hours of train from Bangalore to New Delhi gave me the time for a little thinking and for some photography.
